Joanna Newsom

I first want to say I love this picture.
I have very recently been introduced to Joanna Newsom's music. It is very odd. She plays the harp and other instruments and sings in a old-lady/little girl voice if that's possible. The songs seem very simple and nonsensical but are actually very deep and layered.
When i first heard her voice it reminded me of Bjork. Kind of crazy and wierd. It's the harp playing that got me. she plays that harp like it's a guitar. Very untraditional sounds coming out.
Some of her songs are almost medieval in their harmonies, like madrigals.
This is not play-it-loud-in-the-car music. It is sitting-in- a little -room-sipping-wierd-teas music.
Went to pick apples today. I ended up with 15 lbs of apples! I feel Fall in the air!

All I want for Christmas......

QUEEN live at Wembley 86' was on tonight. I decided to google the concert to see the lineup of songs to see if they were going to play songs I wanted to hear. This is what popped up.....

Now, I MUST have one!

He does look a bit Saddam-ish though.....

Still on my Indian/Thai food rampage. I made Panang for the second night. I cooked up the chick peas I got at the Indian market and made Hummus. I actually had that hummus for breakfast (**she says guiltily**.....)

Watched Hillary at the DNC last night. She is such a good speaker. (Loved the dusty-mango-colored pantsuit!)

She actually made up my mind When she asked if people were for HER or the party. I'm not a fan of Obama, but I would rather have a Democrat in the White House.

There was some funny footage on Fox. A reporter was dispatched to cover the protests outside the convention. He was trying to engage passerbys into conversation. He wanted to know what the issues were. People said no they wouldn't talk to him, and some were swearing. All of the sudden, the crowd was chanting F%CK FOX NEWS!!!" I found it so funny.
I watched Blades of Glory for like the 30th time this morning. The first time I watched it I thought it was OK. It has grown on me and I haven't gotten sick of it yet!

Only You

Yesterday as I was writing I kept thinking about this movie. I think it is one of the more under-rated movies ever. Set in the most beautiful parts of the world, great actors, romance and funny to boot....
The real bonus in this movie is Bonnie Hunt. She is so naturally funny. I love her character, Kate. Level-headed, but so out of control... I love how she sprays her SunMoonStars perfume in a cloud and then walks into it, and I love that leather skirt on her. the one she wears ewhen she goes sight seeing with Giovanni.
......NowI have to go watch this movie!!!!

Luther

Just the other day I saw this picture of a 1 pound bacon cheeseburger on a Krispy Kreme donut. Definitely food porn to some, but It made me sick. I HATE anything greasy and sloppy like this.

Upon looking at other pictures on the same site I saw that this burger is also called the Luther Burger after the now-deceased R&B singer, Luther Vandross. That made me kind of mad. Poor guy.

We went to the NYS Fair yesterday. We go every year, and every year it's basically the same, but less, somehow. I always walk away feeling like there's less to see, and not really anything new or exciting. Jerry ran into a couple of people he knew, and we stopped by to see my old boss, who runs like 6 or 7 stands in the Dairy building. I always joke with him that they are going to have to change the name of the building if he starts up any more businesses in there!

He LOVES Jerry. Let me preface that by saying that this guy is Lebanese and he grew up with all those middle eastern ideas about women, etc. I notice that whenever we see him, he is happy to see me, but bursting with happiness to see Jerry. They stand there and talk about business-blah-blah-blah......and because they work for rival companies there is always an element of slyness to their conversation. (especially when they ask each other "How's business?")

My last picture relates to my old boss. At one of his food stands at the Fair he is selling this item called a Roast Beef Sundae. People are making such a fuss over it. The local TV stations are covering it!
Basically mashed potatoes with beef in gravy sprinkled with cheddar cheese and a cherry tomato on top.
I went to the Indian Market today and got some garbanzo beans, spices and some hair oil . they just opened this place and it seems like a neat place to stock up on foods I cannot find anywhere else around here.
They had some jewelry (about 5 lakh necklaces). I hope they eventually get more.
Jerry's gone for a couple of days. he woke me up early this morning, and It was way to early to go to the supermarket, so I watched that old movie THE PICKUP ARTIST with Molly Ringwald and Robert Downey jr. I swear I have arrested development because every movie I enjoy is fit for a 13-year old.

Projects in Queue

I'm constantly seeing things that I like, but they are overly expensive, or really not worth what some people pay for them. Here are two great examples. These Lulu Frost number necklaces are made out of old hotel room door numbers and suspended from a jumble of odd chains with pearl accents. They go for hundreds of dollars.
For about a year now I have been looking for small 1 inch brass numbers so I can duplicate this great necklace. Every time I see numbers at a hardware store/dollar store I can only ever find larger ones. (which would work if I was going for the 70's pimp/Mr T look....)

This bracelet is a more recent find. I saw it in a magazine and realized it had all the components that I can find easily. This bracelet was very high-end (price). I like the little buddha charm with the little freshwater pearls, and the faceted round beads.

Tonight I will be done with my turtleneck and it will be on to the next project tomorrow. It will be the
Marsupial bag I think. That is something that I can devote a couple of days to and be done. Instant gratification....

Jerry has a dinner meeting tonight and the boy is off to work leaving me to fend for myself..
the weather was so spectacular here today. I will probably walk with harley in a little while.

Friday

I finally found a good vintage Paloma Picasso bag on Ebay. And....I actually won it!
This bag looks cute. It's leather and is about 9"x8". I like the handle on the top
It looks like it's in pretty good condition.
After I wrote about that Cobblestone sweater the other day, I went and found the pattern. I can't believe I actually bought the issue it was in ! I don't usually buy that magazine.
I should be doing laundry and cleaning right now, but I am procrastinating....
I went to the new Marshall's today. The store is very modern, and is very chic-looking, but they have less of what I like. Less HBA. Less jewelry. Less accessories. Guess what? I will be going there LESS! I did get an evil eye bracelet.
I like this one because it's clear with a pink tinge.

Tautou'sday....

Found this pic online. I think Audrey Tautou is so beautiful. Ever since I saw Amelie I have been in awe of just how perfect she looks.
I can understand why they've chosen her to Star as Coco Chanel in the new biopic. She embodies exactly what Coco Chanel used as her muse. Androgynous, garcon, and sporty. A woman who doesn't follow fashion, fashion follows her.
I am NOT a fan, however, of how much makeup they have layered on her perfect, poreless face. She doesn't need all that! I see she has the same bony facial structure as Mlle Chanel, but I think Chanel was all about a natural, boyish look, not some painted lady.
I will be seeing this movie when it comes out. This is one of 2 movies that are being made about Chanel.

Cobblestone Pullover

Last night I was browsing on Ravelry and came across this wonderful pullover.
I think it is exactly what I need for the fall and winter!
right now I'm finishing up my black turtleneck. I had one that I wore constantly until it was in tatters, so I am making one to replace it.
I like this sweater because it has the look of fair isle without all the colors.
it is knit in the round, and those side panels five it some definition.
Hopefully, I have the magazine the pattern is from, otherwise, I'm going to have to pay for a copy online somewhere.
I'm also going to make the marsupial tote. every one I've seen made up looks great.
I want it in a bright color combination.
We went to Smokey Bones for supper tonight. Dinosaur BBQ it ain't....
There was too much sauce on everything, and everything was extremely sweet for some reason.
Also went to mass, so we don't have to get up early tomorrow (yeah!!!!)

Rainy Day

It has been raining today. a couple of times it started hailing the size of peas. I've been wanting to cut back all the basil in the garden to dry it, but just haven't had the ambition to do so.
I decided to do it today because I didn't want the hail to damage all that good basil.Picture 1 is of my garden back when I first planted it. Numbers 2 and 3 are the garden right before I cut it down today, and number 4 is of the bunches of basil I have hanging in my garage to dry now.
After they get dry and crumbly, I will take all the leaves off the stems and grind them in the food processor. I've done this before, and it comes out great. I've never had quite so much to work with! the last time I did this I had about half as much. It keeps for a couple of years.
I went to Barnes and Noble today and had a cup of coffee and copied down a couple of patterns from the Stitch-n-Bitch books.
I also ordered a book about French pastisseries. I saw a write-up of this book in a magazine and it sounds like it's beautiful.
Mike had to go to work tonight at the new store, and Jerry's out. I will be doing laundry and cleaning a bit.

Chicken Legs and French Fries

Today I just sort of hung around here in the morning, and then I went to look at beads at a local shop. I ended up getting a Murani glass ring. I had looked at it the last time I was there, and I've been thinking about it ever since.
Hopefully, it will last through a few wearings since it's glass, and I'm such a big clutz....
Yesterday, I went to the mall. It had been way too long since I'd been, and I just flet like getting out and milling around.
Pictured aresome of the items I purchased.... The NARS Lip Lacquer in Sweet Charity.
I love these. They last a long time on me. This color looks lavander-plum (sheer) in the pot, and on it's almost nude-ish/rose.
I also stopped by the Body Shop. I got these cool Shimmer Cubes (#07). I've never used these before. I wore then today and I'm really impressed! It's so hard to find silver shadow that isn't too shimmery or fake. This one is perfect. The other (great) colors are a wonderful smokey dark plum/deep brown/plummy-burgundy.
I got the tea tree hand sanitizer gel to get my total up to $20.00 so I could get to the next level on my Body Shop card.
I also went to Bath and Body Works and saw they still had Vincent Longo on sale at 50% off! Got a couple of things before it's all gone. I asked the woman there and she confirmed that they are DISCONTINUING my beloved Vincent Longo!!!! I'm so sad.
They are also doing away with AWAKE skincare (BOO!) I love that as well. After all....It's a KOSE product.
I really need a manicure and pedicure. Perhaps tomorrow or Friday.....
Tonight I made chicken legs with a mexican Tequilla-lime-chile marinade. It was a recipe I got from a Greek food blog. Yeah, Greek food blog....
We had them with french fries, leftover corn (off the cob) and a salad.
i will make the chicken again. It was delicious.

Monday

So, I'm browsing through magazines today, and I come across this spread in The Fashion Rocks supplement mag. My eyes were just fixated on these beautiful photos of Dhani Harrison (George's son) and Sasha Pivovarova. The picture of the two of them wearing hats reminded me of George Harrison, and Patty Boyd in the 70's.
Dhani really has his father's look about him. He is a very rich guy. His father left him and his mother, Olivia $320 Million dollars to share.
I also heard a story today about Nikki Blonsky from the movie Hairspray getting into a huge physical fight with one of the models who was on ANTM in an airport somewhere. There were fists flying, and Nikki showed up to court today with a neck brace on. the report said it was racially fueled! I guess Nikki was trying to save seats inan airport terminal for her family and this model wasn't having it, and so fisticuffs ensued.Sheesh!
My money's on Nikki!
